You may clean and polish oil finished wood furniture with a lemon or
orange oil polish. You should use it more frequently in dry conditions
to keep the wood from excessive drying. Since the pores of the wood
are not filled with a hard finish, it will tend to dull over time. At
periodic intervals, it is necessary to re coat the piece with the oil
finish. You may wax the finish with paste wax between recoatings.
Oil and Varnish-Finished Furniture
This finish seals the surface. For normal cleaning, you may wipe with
a damp cloth, then dry. You may use a furniture polish, but avoid polishes
with silicone. You may clean soiled surfaces with an oil soap, following
the directions. It is not necessary to wax, but if you do wax, you cannot
use furniture polishes. They will only dull the wax. To strip off any
wax, use mineral spirits.
